Thinking something that doesn't cost $3k or more.

I've got Tikkas that I've customized and they have worked nicely. I was just interested if there's some other as-is factory setup that connects the dots like the Fieldcraft did or Montucky, somewhere south of the $2k range outta the box.

What is the situation with Montanas? I know Fieldcrafts have been on hiatus for a while but have not paid attention lately.

If the good times are really over for good, I am glad I jumped on several when I did....

Montanas seem very tricky to obtain unless on the broker sites and then the used flavors go for quite a bit. Maybe covid production issues?

For what it's worth, I've seen several Montana's on Gunsinternational.com...the ones that are priced right go fairly quickly though.

A couple pards shoot said chambering in 8" RPM Montuckies, wearing short shanked dupes. Nice way to fly,but the 243 Kreed makes more sense today...........

Haven't wanted a big green in 20 years but the 8 twist 243 might work and the 8 twist 7 mag sounds pretty sporty too. Too bad they didn't 7 twist the 223. Internet says mag boxes are 3.924” and 2.975”. it's almost like they guys calling the shots like to shoot.

I hope they can keep the cost under $1500 or so but I suspect we're looking at a 2k rifle which is much less appealing. I'll probably buy one for nostalgia alone eventually.

Interesting that they 8 twisted the 7 rem mag, but left the 7mm-08 at 9.5 and the 270 at 10. If the chart is correct.
"Cerakote flutted" doesn't say anything of the "Barrel material". The pic looks to have a thread protector on the end of the tube, but it doesn't look like they mention such.

My Remington American Wilderness with the stainless 5r is a tack driver. The cerakote hasn't done very well, and I replaced the Greyboe and the trigger. LOL, well anyway I still have the barreled action intact.

Keep us posted on the Alpa 1 Al and thanks for the info on that one. I might see a 7rem 8 twist on the horizon if they don't go stupid on price

If you watch the video, they show the thread protector as well as some of the other features. Some of the the twist rates shown may change when it comes to actual production. A top tier rifle builder pal (sorry...can't spill any names) has been working with the new actions pre-production and he's impressed.

Hopefully, a rig will 'trickle down' my way at some point. I've made my chambering choice but that's no guarantee either when it comes to these deals. I'm reminded of when Stan Ware and I were invited by Big Green to shoot the then-new and soon to be released Remington E-Tronix rifles......

Good shootin' -Al

I’d rather put a 28oz action in a 22oz stock

then a 22oz action in a 28oz stock

stocky’s, uc manners, proof… there’s quite a few off the shelf options nowadays for 700 footprints.

I only run tikkas, but a doctor visit and a bolt handle swap can get them down in that 22oz range.

I'd like to see how the .223 Alpha finishes out, with regard to mag box measurements.

Too bad they didn't skip the .22-250 altogether, with that 14-twist. What a waste! A bigger splash could have been made, by jumping in with a fast-twist 22 Creed.
