6mm Creedmoor on a Howa action

A roo shooter mate has a Stainless Howa with a worn out 22-250 barrel on it. He wants something a little beefier for use on pigs and goats and to dabble in a bit of long range stuff. I suggested a 6mm Creed. He handloads (heaps!).

Looks like the fastest local 6mm barrels we can source - TSE and Maddco - come in 1-8 twist at best. I told him I'm pretty confident he'll be able to stabilise 100-110g bullets with that twist and he should be able to seat out to kiss the lands in that mag box.

Trouble is he's thinking 243 Win as a traditionalist... is there enough room in the Howa internal mag to seat a 105 out that far? Or should I advise him to go 6Creed?

Thoughts? Thanks...

The magbox is there and throating will pinpoint happiness.

Starting over,I'd Creed'...because it is a better design, tosses COAL latitude and is of like capacity.............

Thanks.

If he went 243, what dimensions would you ask the gunsmith to cut the throat, if you dont mind me asking? (Assuming we'd be trying to get 105g BTHPs or similar loaded to mag box length in 243 Win).

Bob, It would be tough to botch throating on a 243 Win given the Howa 2.870"ish mag box length! though I 'spose some could...*grin*
Anyways for my 1-8" Pacnor 3 groove Howa I spec'd my 243AI reamer with a .75 thou FB and that grants me a Hornie 105HPBT smooch at 2.735" plenty wiggle room there...
I pitched the Dog shit bottom not metal for the Atlasworx DBM and AICS mags.....

I've had good luck with Colin's DBM and it's nice to crowd 3" of COAL,if wanted, ala AICS footprint mags.

I'd still go Creed',due design and brass quality.

Cain't hate on a good 243Win...but that Alpha stuff is just fucking sensational and rates a thunk...............

Thanks Gents,
Ridgy thanks for that too; I had it in my head your 243 was a 700 so that helps.
I think my old mate won't be talked out of his crappy walnut stock in a hurry though!!
Thanks again fellows.

Bob, There just might could be a fairly Skookum Rem700 1-8" 243AI kickin' around hereabouts.... *grin*

As for a local barrel, True flite also rate strong consideration...

I savvy the bane of logistics nightmares...but Lapooey brass don't exactly suck.

Cain't decide if my next Creed' is gonna be a Krunchenticker or Turn Bolt...............

Gonna be tough to whoop a 223 there, for volume pursuits.

The 22 Grendel is STUPID Sinister with 75 ELD's and an outright Mind Fuck. Crazy to tote a 20" Krunchenticker stoked same, that will slap a 23" 22-250AI and 75 A-Max around down range.

That one fucks with heads.

Seen it.............(grin)
