Me and the boy were shooting my 54 Anschutz the other day and he is getting the itch for a heavy 22 of his own.

I think he likes the heavy barrel, bigger glass and target stock. He shoots it well from bags or bipod without the wiggles of a sporter

Keep in mind that he is 8 and cant handle a real pig but wants a target rig like dad's. My 54 is a little awkward for him

I'm thinking about picking him up one of these and sticking a 10x or 3-15 SS on it

Thoughts from you rimfire guys are appreciated

Those little CZ's are solid shooters. Proof just started offering barrels for them, along with a dozen other companies. Aftermarket triggers are plentiful as are stocks and chassis if he decides to go that route in the future...

They're also easy to sell if he gets the urge for a Vudoo..................grin

Oh I've got the urge for a vudoo myself, but it's not in the cards for a while.

From what I've read the 457 trigger isn't too bad, have you messed with any?

The ones I've been around are factory and haven't been touched. I've got 4 buds that are picking up MTR's this week, so I suspect I'll get to mess with one later this week.

I'd be curious to hear the findings.

I read a little about the MTR. I wonder if it actually has a better barrel/tighter chamber?

I'm leaning towards the pro varmint just because it's cheaper, I dont care about a painted plywood stock and it threaded for a can.

Honestly I've always been impressed by my old 452 American with good ammo. It's much more accurate than it should be

I know a local guy who owns a small gun shop, swears that his MTR will outshoot his old 64 actioned Anschutz. The Annie is an old 1451, so its not exactly going to handle from a bench or bipod, the way the MTR will.

He said he bought the MTR because CZ says it has a match chamber and barrel....no idea if that's true though..

Good to hear its shooting for him.

I think the pro varmint is in the future unless you guys have a better suggestion for similar loot.

Thinking a 3-15 ss off the sample list will do the job. Any reason a SFP reticle will suck for a rimfire?

Thanks again for the input

I like the SFP DMR2 3-15x reticle,for giggles.

For a kid and everyone(meaning me too)...pass 6x MQ sanctity. You'll learn without knowing it.............

I don't think you can go wrong with the CZ rimfires. My sporter 455 shoots CCI Green Tag match ammo into the .3's (5 shot groups) at 50 yards. with bedding and some trigger work.
