I couldn't see doing it over the 260 or 243. My SA 25 is a 25-284, as the .257 bullets typically don't have problems making mag length with the longer 284 case.

Ouch...

I've been thinking about what would happen if a guy necked down a 7 or 270 WSM to 25. A short action 257 WBY Montana sounds fun.

The 25-284 has plenty of horsepressure and will do everything a good 25-06 will do.

But the 'majors' not legitimizing the 25-08 (aka 25 Souper)baffles me to no end. For the avg. shooter that wanted a nice, light recoiling .25, the 25-08 would be smooth with ten 'o's.

A goomba highly placed in Big Green ;) confides the interest is there but mgmt. simply refuses to work with a case that originated in Winchester County. Ditto the 22-08 which would be a killer offering in a factory rifle...a new age 220 Swift.

Both cartridges have been very, very close to being greenlighted in the past, though.

And there was another 'big case' .22 that was so close to production it would scare you if all the details were made public.

I've been looking for something betwixt .22 and .3o cal for some time. Keeps boiling down to .25 or .26 cal.

The 25-08 makes my short list is .25 cal every time. Not a huge jump from the 25o AI. Redding lists a .25-243 Imp.

Goes kind of like 250 AI, 25-08 reg/imp, 257 Bob AI, 25-284, 25-06 reg/AI and, of course, 257 Roy. It's like Neopolitan ice cream - everyone love ice cream, just not everyone digs the same flavor.

I'd consider the 6.5mm line up too, but that might label me a commie.

I love my 250 Savage Ackley, no doubt about that. But honestly..if I had to do it all over again I think I'd go with a simple 243W case necked to .25...aka the 25-08, 25 Super/Souper.

With a reamer dimensioned from Lapua 243 brass it offers all the ballistics of the 250 Savage Ackley with simpler dies, better brass availablity, no fireforming and slick feeding from a short 700 action.

Not that any of these are deal breakers for particularly gunny types, but for the average guy this is a 'domesticat' that makes sense.

Another nice .25 can be made from the Lapua 6.5X47 case necked to .25. Again, stupid-simple dies, reamers and killer brass.

Two pals of mine have .25's as outlined..between the .25-08, the 25-47L and my 250 Savage Ackley there isn't 100 fps difference between any of them and accuracy is so similar that's it's a toss up.

Those are the kind of decisions I like..no 'wrong' way to go.

Good shootin'. :) -Al

I still very much believe that there is an inherent funnel deeply rooted within the 25-284,that seemingly sucks boolits to POA and makes the unbelievable...routine.

Can't know what it is,but I dig it.

A SAAMI 223AI would be nice and I know it's mused often..............

I've been trying to decide on where to go with my faux ti 243. I kept flip-flopping on having a 25-284 MR contour tube screwed on, or just punching it 243AI. I've got so much 6mm shit on hand (and no .25's at all) that I'll likely just have the bat-cave punch it out once crow season closes in a couple weeks, and then get to forming brass on woodchuck's with some 75'max's. I mean an 85TSX at 3400+ can't suck that bad....and there is still the 105Amax, which I have a bunch of for the heavy 243AI.

The 85 TSX is a flabberghaster. It shouldn't kill that good @ only 85gns. It lays deer down with such authority as to make one quesion why you'd ever deal with any more weight or recoil than what a flyweight 243 offers.

I have some 90gr 6mm Scirocco's here that I traded into, I'd like to give them a try to see how they do. I was also considering playing around with the new 6mm 80gr TTSX.

I just picked up a Remington Model Seven XCR in .243 and I think I'm going to give that 80gr TTSX a shot as well. Just need to find a varmint bullet to go along with it. I figure this will be about the perfect coyote rig.

What do the TSXs do to putty-tats? I've shot a coyote with my 257 Wby and it had a quarter-inch hole on both sides. If that's pretty typical performance, I don't mind just shooting the 80TTSX/85TSX.

Just an FYI for the quarterbore fans. On the Hide, there is a 25-06 SS fluted Sendero barreled action for $450. Looks like a guy might could get it for cheaper. Gamble is that the man says the barrel sucks.

Don't know, he hasn't played with any of the TSX's in his .243 and mine is to danged heavy to tote out after yotes and cats. He is planning on loading some up for his daughter to use this year so maybe we will get to shoot a cat or two with them......Blake

I had Hill Country Rifle build me a .25 Souper a few years ago. Rem 700 short action, Lilja 23" 1:10 twist, 3 groove ss barrel, Timney trigger. AMAZING shooter. ZERO recoil with 75 gr. Hornady V-Max bullet heads, so ig you are shooting a prairie dog or woodchuck, you can watch the impact through the scope.
How does it shoot? 3 shot groups at 100 yds are slightly larger than the bullet diameter, but single hole. At 200 yds, group opens to 3/4."
Absolutely my favorite shooter.
