I picked up this gently used Remington 700 take off barrel

It is a medium palma Bartlein 1:8 chambered in 223 set up for 90 grain VLDs by gunsmith Doan Trevor.

My first thought is to send it off to get AI'd and re-contoured to light done right.

Who wants to talk me into a HEAVY 223?

Thought about it but figure if I go up in case capacity I would go to a 6mm. And I have a small bolt face action

I've seen Doan's stocks,but never his metal.

Is it for an OEM or "trued" receiver?

I'd shorten the shank a bunch and go 223AI at no more than 21",with 75A-Max being the focus...and kiss at 2.450" or so.

The stock would be fed ala AICS footprint DBM's and AM steel 5's would be the default,with MDT poly 10's as backup................

It came off a trued receiver with a ~0.2 lug.

If I have any action work I just get lugs lapped and face squared. A heavy would be fun but even my prairie dog shooting often ends up with me walking and shooting.

So threads are still OEM? That'll grant moves.

I'd go no longer than 21"...mainly because I have..................(grin)
