The wife and I did this project around our house over the last couple years. Feels good to wrap it up this year. We did all the work ourselves, but the materials alone still cost about 35-40 McMillans....grin

It was almost like work, but well worth the cost/effort. The place is much cooler in the summer months, and keeping the water (all 11" per year average, I know you SE Alaskans will have a laugh at that) away from the foundation should prevent any settling down the road. Around these parts, the sun eats shit up too, keeping it off the siding, windows, doors, really helps preserve stuff. Also seems to send a lot of the heavier wind over the roof, instead of into the structure. 70 mph gusts are not uncommon events, and the house just feels a lot more solid now. We're on top of a hill, and do reap full-value winds.

Makes for a lot of outdoor living space, to boot.

Am thinking I've seen some 11" rainfall days.

Momma wants it for BBQ/entertaining and some added elbow room.

I can't argue any of it,other than how many McMillans it'll be..............(grin)

Here
I like that Shane, can't have enough 'outdoor' living space.

By the time I retire from the military I'll end up in a 700sq foot house with 1000sq foot of porch and a 2000 sq foot workshop.

Sounds like a plan. Why is it few women can see the beauty of it all??

The bugs aren't bad at all here. Too dry for them. What we do have are often kept down by the breeze.

I'm thinkin down the road it would be nice to glass-in a section on the SW side. Put a hot tub in it, and maybe a little greenhouse action.

Well, the Mrs is actually pretty accomodating. We've only had a couple of Alaskans stop by for some talk/sleep/food. I didn't know either of them were on here. But then again, the 'net can be a fairly anonymous place.

I still haven't forgot about the bottom metal you gave me, keep your eye's open as you will have a package from me hitting your doorstep a few weeks from now, as soon as I get the time and the hunting winds down. You like your .224 pills nekkid, or moly'd? There's a hint there.

Brad, you don't owe me anything. Hell, Big Stick gave me the stock, metal and all. The metal was fairly worn and didn't fit this handle inlet all that well. Coulda been tweaked, but I made a fast decision to go with new bottom metal, and was happy to help you match up numbers on yours. I just passed along the savings I had received.

I usually buy bullets nekkid, and moly them up myself.

We haven't had anything but flurries so far. A pard is getting paranoid that we won't get any safe ice for fishing. We (almost) never have enough ice to be out on before the first of the year. IIRC, we didn't get on the ice until mid-january last winter.

Yep, that sounds perfect to me, too.

Very good looking job, Shane.
