I have an 84M Montana with a chopped 308 Win barrel sitting in the corner and I’m trying to decide what to do with it.
I already have Montucky’s in 7T 223 and 7.5T 243AI so I have the small end covered. I have thought about 22 Creedmoor and 6BR but I really struggle to see what tangible they will give me over what I already have. I have 6BR‘ed more than a little and it’s great, but the 223 is hard to beat for long range play.
I have thought about a 6.5 Creed with a short throat but really would like to be able to run 7 mm. So the question, has anybody put together a 7mm Creedmoor to shoot the pointy 180 grain ELD yet? Wondering how that chamber with 0 freebore would work in the 84M with 180s.
I have even thought about going 7X57 in an 84L, but I have the 84M in hand and like GOOD brass.
