I’m trying to decide on a sporter stock for my lightweight Vudoo. Specially, I’m looking for one that’s as close as possible to a Kimber Montana stock.

I don’t have many options to go out and pick them up and check them out...so what would you recommend?

FWIW, the All Composites stock is bad ass...but not ideal for toting in the woods...

Help me spend money!

Rolltide,

I don't think you're gonna get very close to Montana ergos in a Rem 700 stock, but a Compact/Hunters Edge has a thinner fore end and a bit more open grip and I believe it will swallow a DBM.

My fav sporter blue print with dbm is the McM Hunter and I'd love a Vudoo (with shorter mags) in one.

I rolled mcmillan classic and like it a lot. Could go painted edge version for some weight savings if desired.

Watching this one with interest. I've held back on a Vudoo because I'm sure it would sit too much if it was too heavy or bench-specific. A "Montana Vudoo" is exactly what I want.

You just aren’t gonna make a Vudoo into a Montana with the dbm.

I bet that new Manners would get you close though.

Thanks for the input guys!

DZ, 2 of my Vudoo's are heavy...like 16 or 17 lbs, but I shoot them like crazy.

My lightweight, the one I can't decide on a name for...either Stealth or Wraith...is less than 10 lbs as is, but would be the ultimate squirrel and critter getter, if it were in a slim little stock...

What barrel contour/length did you end up with? Do you have an approximate weight as shown? That looks a lot like what I want.

I've looked hard at that Manners. Comb looks really low, which is disappointing - but they were definitely going for a "look", and it contributes to the low weight. I'm sure a heavy Vudoo is magic, but over the years I've accepted that the rifles I shoot are the ones I want to carry.

Well said. I've been sitting on a short action A5 for... ever. Hard for me to get interested in building something that I won't pack up a mountain.

Looks like 9 pounds and an ounce or two. 18" specter, Q el camino suppressor, seekins rings, SHV F1 which I think goes 30 ounces, and that McMillan standard fill stock. Figure you lose 10 ounces with 10x MQ and probably could lose 6-8 ounces with edge fill. So maybe 8 pounds without too much work.

Mine with a 16.5" specter, Outlander stock, and a 3-12 LRTS is just a tick over 8.5 lbs. Certainly not a lightweight....especially with that heavy glass, but it handles nice enough to suit me.

Thanks both of you. I would be pretty happy at 8ish for a 16.5" gelcoat classic. I don't need it to be super lightweight.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm gonna stroll through Cabelas and every gun shop, fondling every Remington 700 SA footprint rifle until I find a lightweight sporter I like.

I've spent some time on their site and like the looks of them. I've got an email out to them, to see which model is closest to the Montana's, yet will still allow the 700SA to fit with the bottom metal...

I'd call McMillan and come up with a Sako Hunter,as light as they could. 1/2" pad and (2) flushcups.

You can do no better................
