Called in a nice buck today but he ran and I had to shoot him while he was trying to hide in the brush. It was not a head shot. No pics yet but here is a pic of the bucks from last week. The guy in the pic is my buddy Cole.

Hunted again this evening and found the url for this forum.

Looking forward to some good old Alaskan humor.

Had to go to the mainland between rough water days. It's been pretty skinny on Kupreanof. Had to take an open skiff today as my Hewes is being repowered. I've made 4 trips and harvested 3 nice bucks. My theory is the deer on the mainland live with the goats and they knew how to handle the 220 inches of snow last winter. I counted 21 rubs in one alder patch. I've never seen anything close to that , even on POW or Admiralty.

You can sure tell which deer was rubbing the alders. The antlers on Coles deer are really dark. Hopefully we'll run into their brothers on Friday.

I hunted everywhere from sea level to about 2000 ft yesterday and didn't really see sign until I got into the timber with about 6 inches of snow. Unfortunately the deer were all pushing off the wrong side of the mountain and following them would have put me about 15 miles from my rig.
