What do you guys think? Buy a Barrett Fieldcraft and have a 7-08 barrel installed? Or rebarrel a 700 mountain rifle and install a Wyatt's mag box?

I already have the 700. It's a 243 and it shoots great so I'm reluctant to rebarrel until the 243 barrel is toast.

If I wanted light, I'd grab a Montana and rebarrel it to suit.

A sporterish in a MR gelcoat on the 700 if you're not wanting too light. I'd DBM long before Wyatt's too, but that's just me.

I was holding out for a fieldcraft but that never materialized, picked up a 700 7/08AI and it is a peach, not nearly as light as the fieldcraft but with a faux Mcmilland and NF 2.5X10X32 it comes in a little under 8.5 pounds. That isnt light but it balances great.......

What's the difference between modified Lilja vs factory dupe? How's the balance difference?

I have a 300 I picked up to rebarrel...

Liljas modified contour is .617 at 24"
Factory is .560" at 24.
Basically the mod just tapers less from the end of the stock to the muzzle.

It's personal preference, but I prefer the way the mod balances on an 84. I've not tried it on an 8400, but I'm about to

Find yerself an original Rem 700 Ti..............best grand I ever spent on a gun after getting the bedding right.

Downside is they are scarce & go fer a bit more now. ;)

That's what I had wanted forever. Don't know how many I passed up, thinking I'd buy later or just didn't have the funds available. Back when Matt Williams was still around he had his 7-08AI up for sale...I wanted that so bad but couldn't come up with the cash.

Now they go for double that, and not sure it's worth that kind of money. Closest thing I have is a 243AI Mountain Guide...

In what respect?

My 7-08 Ti is an absolute hammer that is insensitive to various loads & bullets.

Not saying the FC isn't a great rifle but I don't have one yet either.............need a reason to change. (grin)

OK, thanks.

Read yesterday that Barrett had suspended production of the Fieldcrafts due to some big Govt. contracts that they've gotten.

No word on when they will resume..............probably drive prices of existing ones up somewhat.
