So...if a guy is looking for a cheaper truck gun, loaner or whatever, what is being recommended these days? Ruger American, Howa, 700 SPS or something else?

$379 ADL in a Ti takeoff or similar is hard to beat IMO. As long as you can handle blued.

Lots of ways to get there.

A $379 PSA Rifle Kit is a LOT of rifle for the jingle and zero fucking around...…………………….

You can build a good AR for next to nothing.................

This ^^^^ as long as you can get along with a cartridge that fits. Can always go with the AR10 as base for a 308 or 6.5.

In a low cost bolt gun, the Ruger stands alone.

Pretty funny.........................

I asked because they have been a topic of conversation here at work. Ruger American and Howa are two that get mentioned a bunch. Never had either one, but I've thought about trying them out so I would have an opinion. I haven't seen sub-$400 700s here for a bit...

ARs are an easy recommendation. They are pretty much all I have played with for the last few years, with the various oddball like Scars and the like thrown in. Some of the guys are hesitant on those still....

RAR's aren't light either.

Howa has a broad assortment of handle choices too, which is nice.........................
