Learned my buddies a good lesson

While hunting with my best friend, his dad and nephew I was able to teach them a valuable lesson. Me and Troy have gone round and round about hunting with a hot chamber. He thinks that one needs to hunt hot in case a deer jumps up in front of him. He has carried hot for years as has his father. I know that both of them are extremely careful about muzzle control, but I was not satisfied with that. I took a spill coming down the side of a hill and when Troy turned around all he could see was my muzzle pointed at himself and his nephew. Lets just say that I made my point about hunting with a cold chamber. I just hope it sticks..........Blake

Can't see any down side to carrying cold. Sounds like a good lesson as well, seeing stuff firsthand is a good way to learn, at least for me.

I took 2 big wrecks in one day this R&R and ended up beating the fuck out of another rifle.

The first tumble left me and my rifle seperated by a few feet, with the muzzle augered into the shit 6-inches deep. It was taped,so didn't hurt anything.

The second,I slam dunked the ocular into a rock, with a sickening "Thud" as I wrecked on my lips upon ascent. My first move was to laze an alder and confirm zero(amazingly,it didn't move). 6x42 on Warne 2pc bases with DD PosiLigns.

I'm a notorious Action Looker and want no part of anyone carrying hot, even myself and I trust me more than anyone I know. Easy to ascertain with a glance, whether shit is stoked or not.

A cold barrel is 100% and those "odds" can't be beat..............

In MI I'd wager (and win) most stumble bums run hot, including some of my kin. I've been converting those that will listen.

That's what some folks can't get there heads around, "If I run cold I could miss out on the trophy of a lifetime and eat tag soup"

No matter how it's sliced it is still just a critter.

Methinks many of them boys on the 'Fire that worry about tag soup shoot one deer every 8 years or so. Of course since they seldom shoot a buck they all assume big bucks are SMART when the fact is that a bunch of them boys is just stupid.........

Just saw this on the 'Fire

I wouldn't hunt with someone who doesn't carry one in the tube. Shows they are too paranoid and insecure that they don't even trust themselves. If someone is that bad, I wouldn't trust them around me once they did chamber a round.
What a fucking idiot....

and this

Hot....unless in a scabbard.

Most AD's occur when loading and unloading firearms.

Choose your poison.....

Had a guy that hunted with both bolt and lever actions tell me that he hunts with one in the pipe because he is afraid of forgetting which gun he has in his hands. Thus he may try to work the wrong action for what he is carrying at the time.

can we say should not be carrying at all!!

Mac, aint that the truth. I'd have to agree with you, that most here carry hot, always give the same excuses about missing an opportunity yada yada yada. The guys who have the worst control of their rifles seem like the guys who always carry hot and have the most excuses. My brother and I were taught to carry cold right out of the gate. Outside of family, and a select few I will actually hunt with, most everyone I talk to, here in Mi., carries hot. I just can't wrap my head around the idea, nor their reasons.

My brother and I were invited on a deer drive last season by a guy I know, there were about 8 guys who I didn't know. It was like a collection of dumbasses had assembled for a meeting. Guys were carrying hot, guys had showed up to be drivers that had just borrowed rifles and knew nothing about them. Seen a guy who had rem pump rifle and didn't know how to use it, his buddy loaded it for him and handed it back and said " this here is the safety". My brother looked at me and said "fuck this". We bailed, I guess they managed to not kill anyone. Mac can probably tell you that this isn't a one in a million incident, there are alot of dumbasses here that the only time they pick up a rifle is the opening day of gun season.

I kinda figure the guys that are so itchy to get a round off that they can't be bothered with loading their guns, are also the sorts that aren't likely to take time to make sure that they really know what they are shooting at.

I can't fathom those that don't savvy the argument that going through life having missed a critter or two is much better than going through life having accidentally hit a family member or friend.

Can also savvy that practice can overcome much in the way of opperating a gun, and those that don't practice enough to properly handle their guns, are the last ones in the world that should run hot.

As someone said on there 'The guys that run cold are actually the only ones I would trust to run hot'....

That whole debate over over there just amazed me.....

Then I end up with Ass Clown Jeff trying to compare me to Jim Zumbo by alienating my customers.

He pulls up my quotes about folks who hunt hot and asked me if I wanted to stick to my word.....what a deusche.

Here's my quote with his response....

Here's a thought........

If you're not competent or proficient enough to carry cold and chamber a round when the shooting opportunity presents itself, then you shouldn't be hunting at all. It simply illustrates that you are not familiar with your rifle or safe gun handling techniques. If this is something you don't agree with, at least have the gumption to not pass on these techniques to children.
Here's the Golden Boy's response to that one.

Wow. Uh huh. Bet THAT will be a popular sentiment with your customers, considering that oh, probably 85% of them hunt "hot".

You and Zumbo should about have the market cornered on alienating your base...
