Will a Remmie OEM 243 barrel stabilize a Hornie 105 HPBT?

Also, I'm contemplating 6.5 and 6 Creed builds. How would you twist 'em?

BTW, picked up an Athlon 2-12. Haven't flogged it hard yet but so far it's impressive.

I've shot hornady 105 hpbt and amax in factory twist.

1 in 8 is plenty for both creeds, I'm shooting 108 bergers and hornadys through a bartlien 8 twist 6 creed with ease

On the OEM question: Probably, but I've had new Remington 243 barrels vary between 9 1/8" and 9 7/8" twist as measured by yours truly. The latter of the two wouldn't shoot them well.

I'm of the same opinion as Bowhunter and Dude in that my new 6mm creed would be 1-8". I have one currently that is 1-7" and it shoots great. My buddy has the same brand barrel, twist, and chambering, but at 800ish rounds it is doing weird stuff with 105 grain bullets at the speeds that he has shot from the beginning. We think the bullet jackets are being degraded some now that the barrel isn't "new". He's at something like 326k rpm in the 1-7" barrel, where a 1-8" would put him at 285k and still easily stabilize the bullets that he's shooting.

My main .243 for a long time had a factory barrel, and did very well with 105 Amaxes. Didn’t shoot the HPBT near as good, but holes were round.

I'd have to think about it long and hard, maybe do some math, but a faster twist in 6.5 might be useful. Bullets are still getting longer and the lower velocity would make rpm concerns lesser. 1:8 was very fast for a .224" a few years ago; now I'd be looking at 7 for a new barrel.

The typical OEM Big Green 9" and small change RPM in 6mm,will do 105's proud at Low Tide in Winter.

I've got Seex Kreeds in 7",7.5" and 8"...though all of my 264 Kreeds are 8". I'd go 7" in Seex Kreed,as the110's are fairly Nasty Bitches and grant a .6xx BC.

As .224" bore sizing goes,my RPM choice would depend upon the exact chambering. 7" in 223,223AI,22 PPC AFI,22BR and the like. 8" will do nice thangs in 224 Speedmire with 88's at Low Tide in Winter.

I hear through The Grapevine that a 7" RPM 22PPC AFI Mini Howie is enroute and I am fucking chomping at the bit!...................(grin)

First, some sorta 1-7 22 Creed barrel since it seems like the most fun.

I have a Montana donor and a stainless 700 Mtn rifle and haven't decided which one should be what. 22, 6 and 6.5 CM's are all going to happen eventually.

I've also pondered a 7 PRC lately although it might just be a 280 with overly expensive brass.....

The 224 Speedmire,goes without saying.(grin)

The 284 PRICK does nothing for me...though a 700 based 280 in Lapooey brass, sure as fuck do.................

Finally dipping my toes in the 6br pool.
Tried to resist but snagged an unfired 7 twist pva prefit for $240. 22 inches and heavy.

Already have an action and a bravo ready to go, so it's just brass, dies and a mag.

If I like it I might be persuaded to follow suit with the 243 Montana I never shoot.

Mike's 6BR conversion on 700's goes back to THE Day. He does exceptional work(I don't own any,but have seen/shot same).

Mike Bryant's ORIGINAL 6BR Conversion For 700's RINK

I prefer to shim the opposite end of the ship, because I like a proud casehead ride height,in relation to the bolt's nose. I set up DBM's in the same fashion,so shit is wellllllllll beyond POSITIVE. My 700's in 22BR and 6BR,sip from AICS DBM's.

Lotsa' ways to skin a cat,I simply prefer to start at the asshole...................(grin)

Entertaining and educational as always đź‘Ť

I figure 30 grains should be a safe place to start with '105s and lever?

Edit- search is my friend looks like 30 should leave 5-10% to spare.

I always sorta rolled my eyes at the 6BR fan club until I built one. Now I get it. A few things in the world are juuuust right, and it's one of them.

Morning Stick. If I understand it shimming the front of the mag box works for both CRF and 700s? I have a 700 action and a Mt rifle stock crying to be a light 6mm BR. Also, last time I talked to the Cali Kid he was too busy with full builds and enjoying recontouring barrels for you guys he did not have time for firing pin work. Anyone else to bush the pins?
reading is fundamental or something.

I shoot better than 30.0grs in all of 'em,with a 105 or 108 Smooch,in Lapooey brass.

Though I'm moly coated.................

When folks see the case, they sorta giggle and ALL sorta preconceived notions overtake 'em. After the first yerk of the trigger, they wanna know how/where to get one.(grin)

Good shit,simply sells itself...................

Greg was THE Bushing Guy for many moons and has done a pile for me. I've not talked to him lately,as I've deferred such thangs to The Kali Kid. It appears that Greg isn't taking on any more work, but it would rate a call to confirm. LRI does it,as does Beanland and I've seen/shot both.

I like a challenge and should box up a few bolts, for a trip to Kali.(grin)

As to the BB shim location,my preference is the bow, whether CRF or PF. It lets the receiver rails do their job, along with the follower and magbox..............
