Mack Bros. EVO action

Looking forward to working with this new Mack Bros. EVO short 700 clone. The indexing recol lug is unique as is how they do the trigger hanger. I knocked it apart yesterday and measured and looked at everything. I like how they lengthened the ejection port over the standard short 700. Comes with a full length 20 MOA true Picatinny spec. rail with 8-40's on the .860 spacing. The action is pretty nice looking...cell pics don't come across that great.

It's a pretty slick concept.

It seems to register nice and flat....will see how it comes up to headspace once the barrel is torqued on.

The early ones needed to have a bit taken off the bolt nose for a 700 style pre-fit to work. I understand that the later ones have had this modification done and that 700 pre-fits work fine. As to when or with what serial number sequence this occurred....I'm clueless.

I'm not a pre-fit guy so we'll see how the indexed lug comes up to headspace when the barrel is fitted.

My first thought in the initial pics was "damn, did they make the lug thick enough" . . .of course after seeing the design it made much more sense.

As an aside, I'm going to add a center action screw to it and float the receiver from the bolt notch rearward. -Al

erik next door at LRI said they'd kept headspace within .001 on the ones he'd measured. this was back in fall of '21.

remage will work on anything but the first run of them.

had one, tripped it.. good solid action. can't say it's a tikka tho.

Too bad I didn’t snag one at $675 because they went up to $775. I guess when Beck bought Defiance and raised all their action prices $500 Mack needed a raise too. They’re starting to make 700 actions look cheap again

I looked at customs for a while but between cost and availability I'm back to shopping for a 700.
