Brand new fieldcraft 06, while finding the throat to set up my dies I noticed the brass was getting scratched on the bottom. I found a very small nic at the mouth of the chamber right on the very edge. What is the best way to get rid of the nic? I know I can send it to Barrett but, that is a pain in the ass. The rifle is brand new and unfired.

I'd probably reach in there with a dowel with abrasive paper on it, unless it looked like a raised piece I could iron down without removing any metal.

Could either use a dowel and some paper, or a round stone if you can get one in there. Wouldn't be much of a job to take to a Smith have him knock the barrel off and clean it up either.

Thanks for the ideas and help. I wrapped a dowel with 1000 grit paper and gently worked over the nick until it was gone. No more scratched brass. Thanks again.

I was planning on the 178 ELDX, but a kiss is 3.414 and the mag box is 3.375 which sucks. I knew the mag box was short way before i bought it. I stumbled across it one night online and the price was good so i bought it. If i don't get the 178's to work I will try something more ping pong ball like. I don't like it when I am in a corner and have no moves. It bogles my mind how they can make such great rifles but screw up the mag box length and give them a king kong LOP.

Skinners are always an easy way to fly.

The 178's .552 BC don't sound so hot,compared to a 88's .545.............(grin)
