The goal was to get him into the 3 club, which requires a two way average speed over 300 mph that is faster than the current record in the class you are racing. We built the car in less than a year and Jack got in the 3 club the second season on the salt. using a naturally aspirated 305 cu/in chevy. It's set several other streamliner records with various flatheads, I'm not sure how many records it currently holds.

No supercharger or turbocharger.

Engines are classified by displacement and whether or not they run on gas, fuel (typically methanol) are blown or unblown aka naturally aspirated.

So he got in the 3 club running a D class engine on gas

Here are the SCTA automobile classes as raced at Bonneville:
AA 501 cid and over 8.21 liters and over
A 440 thru 500 7.21 to 8.19
B 373 thru 439 6.11 to 7.19
C 306 thru 372 5.01 to 6.10
D 261 thru 305 4.27 to 5.00
E 184 thru 260 3.01 to 4.26
F 123 thru 183 2.01 to 3.00
G 93 thru 122 1.51 to 2.00
H 62 thru 92 1.01 to 1.50
I 46 thru 61 0.76 to 1.00
J 31 thru 45 0.51 to 0.75
K 30 cid and under 0.50 and under

Motorcycles have different engine classes.

What's the second lump behind the cockpit on the second picture. It looks like it's removed in the top picture and covered with a brown panel.

I don't recall what the first motor dynoed if it ever was put on a dyno. I'm guessing 350hp, it wasn't a paticularly special engine. His philosophy is move as little air out of the way as possible, as I recall the car is 28" wide, 26" high and 28' long. Do a google search for Nebulous Theorem III.

I also wrenched on his second B-bille car Nebulous II. That car is currently running various turbocharged motorcycle engines in the 1000cc to 1500 cc range and running over 350 mph.

Here is how the gas/fuel unblown/blown classes are identified

GS = Gas Streamliner FS = Fuel Streamliner
BGS = Blown Gas Streamliner BFS = Blown Fuel Streamliner

So when our car set it's record of 304mph it was running D/GS

The convential exhaust flow on a ford flathead runs the exhaust down across the head and dumps out of 3 ports on each side. What this does is dump alot of heat into the engine which limits how much horsepower it can put out.

The reverse flow I mention has the exhaust coming out of the intake ports, which is why the exhaust manifold is on the top of the engine.

It's tough making serious hp with 50's vintage engines.
