Took the wife to the 1st annual RMEF banquet last night. During the auctions, they yelled out some nice stuff. I won the wife some new bling to make sure the night ended in my favor, but was surprised how low everything was going in the auction. Most items were selling for 50% or less of the actual market values (I got a diamond ring for about 25% of retail value). I'm kicking myself for not picking up the Africa Safari. It went for $4250, which included a 7 day hunt for 3 people, and a $500 credit for each person towards the trophy fees. The trophy fees weren't exorbitant either.

I'm thinking next year I might come a little more prepared to jump on a hunt like that.

At least it was a sold out event... not bad for a place that the nearest free ranging elk is 800 miles away.

Yea, I know Dave. Hoping he remembers to bring up some snares and teach me a thing or two on how to catch some wolves during the first week of December.

He was talking about some of the shit he was going to bring. His Bull Woof,is the biggest I've ever seen.

Am thinking he's knee deep in snow with both of his boys now,Calling Bucks in the Timber. Ask him about being Buck charged yesterday, you'll laugh your ass off and quiz him on how to "knock the Rut" off something.

I'm going to take Sister out, looking for a Masher, while Big Momma whips up an early Thanksgiving Dinner.

I'm headed back towards work tomorrow,so this jaunt will be short and hopefully SWEET................

Good luck on finding a big boy. I head up the day after Thanksgiving. If you find yourself in the big city for a few extra minutes, swing on by the shop. I'm in front of the Caribou Inn.

Are there many elk in AK? I thought just a few on a couple on islands in SE. I didnt think there would be much support for RMEF up there.

Hey...if an Organization can bill themselves seriously and go untold miles outta the range of their expertise,to garner support for same at 1/4 Retail...who the fuck can not dig THAT?!!?

That'd be akin to declining a dividend check..............(grin)

I'm going to next years banquet that's for damn sure. I'll try and take more advantage of the 75% discounts.

There are elk in Delta that are huntable... for a modest fee however. Hunting is a little easier than south east or Afognak, you can corral these bastards up in the fences.

Funny thing is I've shot the shit out of moose, caribou and bears, even poked a few blacktails, but the only shoulder mount I have in the house is of an elk. Shot him on opening day of 2nd rifle season in Colorado and found out the need for hunter orange.

after years of being gone, went back to the homestead one November and hunted deer with my dad, 0'dark thirty, sleepy cold we get ready to head into the stands he had erected on his place.

Just before taking off down the trail he hands me an orange vest, WTF? i'm thinking. He says it's the LAW, in Rome do as the Romans I guess. Hadn't thought about hunter orange in a long time other than looking at DSMF'ers and thinking "poor bastids"

bout daylight I was pissed he didn't give me orange coveralls and stocking hat, sounded like a freakin war had broke out, took a little 3x3 whitetail and him a spike and got the F outa there.

I'm pretty happy where I am at, though I ain't nearly as studly trying to drag a moose as a whitetail. (grin)

We hunted just outside if Aspen and that morning the place erupted as well. I saw a group of 5 bulls run 400-500 yards above me, and when the cleared the small valley of pines, the thunder struck. I got into the pines and found a large game trail and set down. Heard a branch break about 10 minutes later and here comes a 5X5 right to me. Laid him to rest at 40 yards. Started the hunt at 8500 feet and shot the bull at nearly 11000 feet.

Elk hunting is some cool shit, but I gotta find an area that isn't so damn crowded. Got a preference point for Montana so hopefully next year I'll be listening to them bugle again.
