While the title of the thread is a bit misleading, I have to say that I have found a rifle that's as fun to shoot as my Vudoo...

For several years now, I have had a strong want...a need...to have an Anschutz 1727F Trainer. There is nothing practical about it, but for whatever reason, it's been a desire for quite some time.

When I got my Vudoo, I decided that I didn't really need the 1727, because I can't see it doing anything that a Vudoo won't do...but damn it, I kept going back to the ANA site and checking out those sexy ass pics of the 1727...gun porn for sure...

Finally, a few weeks ago, I found out from a member in my Rimfire Tactial Facebook group, that there was a strong chance there might be one available in ANA.

I decided to make the call and talk with Brian Curry, the sales guy... I wanted to dislike him... I wanted him to say something dumb or something that would make my mind up, that there is no way I'm buying a 1727... He didn't do any of those things... He's an awesome dude, much like Paul Parrot from Vudoo...

I found out that they had 2 Trainers being put together, one would be bedded and the other most likely wouldn't. I gave my best sales pitch about being a loyal Anschutz fan, with way too many in the safe...you know, the old "help a brother out" pitch... No joy...

Next, I tried to explain that I needed him to cut me some slack because I've got a Vudoo getting built and just bought another one from a friend... No joy...

Finally, I gave in and told the man to write it up and send some extra mags and crap my way...

It took a couple of weeks for it to get here, and by the time it did, I had the rail from DIP, the Atlas rail adapter from Accu-Shot and the rest of the gear ready for assembly.

I put it together on Friday night, before going to shoot a match Saturday morning. I got there a little early and got a 50 yard zero. I figured as long as I had that, I can use the dope from my other rifles and be close enough to work the rest of the dope out in the match.

I shot my 1712 in the first match, which is a mix of targets shot from a bench and some offhand. The 1712 handled everything with ease...me not so much.

Shooting from my hind legs is something I never practice, but will from now on. I got my ass handed to me by several shooters... Shooters who missed targets at 82 yards and 100 yards...while shooting from a bench...with $1k front rests.... and they still missed. When it came time to shoot offhand, those same shooters hammered those little silhouettes...

The second match is one they call the long range match. Long range is relative... A chicken swinger at 82 yards, a pig swinger at 100 yards, a turkey swinger at 164 yards and a ram swinger at 207.

I shot this match last month and won it with my Vudoo. I have no doubt with that Vudoo, regardless of the target. I know if I miss, it was 100% on me.

Saturday though, even though the Vudoo was in the truck, I needed to see what the 1727 could do.

I wish I could make it dramatic and talk about how I had to muscle the rifle...fighting the bolt...overcome tornado strength winds, but none of that happened. In fact, outside of firing a few rounds at the sighter targets at each range, I ran 5 consecutive hits on each target within a total of 10 minutes.

That little rifle is one neat toy. Totally useless for anything to me anyway, outside of range games and matches, but wow, I'm so glad I picked this thing up!

I can't say I'll lay out that kind of cash for another one, but a 17 HMR, would be pretty damn cool...but so would a Vudoo in the same caliber...
