Got a text from a friend this morning asking where to go.
He’s wanting a 20”, 1-10 threaded 5/8-24 stainless. Just looking for a barrel, he has the rest.

BHW seems to be gone so where would you guys start looking. I don’t know his budget.

OK
I picked up a X-Caliber in 243 a few years ago and it was a shooter. I'd do it again if I was looking for another.

Firstly,it's a Krunchenticker

Secondly,it's a 308

Thirdly,it's S/S

Fourtly,it's Rifle Gas

Fifthly,no application was cited

Sixthly,no budget was cited

Seventhly,it's in fucking stock

All dots is connected.....................

That’s a lot of dots.....😂

It’ll be mainly for punching holes in paper and coyotes. He of course like anyone else wants the best accuracy he can have. I’m not convinced you have to spend a ton to get a good shooter but I’ve never heard anyone rave about a Stoner or BA barrel so I’d hesitate to suggest.

I never learned how to linger and wouldn't be fucking around in this climate. Nor would it be 308.

Call Stoner and ask if their spouts are BCA.................(grin)

Criterion. My 18” is a soft shooter. Accuracy is well under 1”. Would buy another But in 6.5:cool:

i have a Stoner barrel in 223 Wylde that’s 20” and that damn thing shoots as good or better than the 20” Criterion I have. It’s the DMR fluted barrel. I bought mine when Satern was making Liberty barrels for Midway. I have a 20” 6.5G that’s more than likely a BCA made by illegal mehicans and the accuracy isn’t the best. I just recently scrubbed the shit out of the barrel and picked up some 123 Black and accuracy improved immensely over H Custom 123SST. That shit was about 8” groups at 100 yards. I’m going to get some brass because the 100gr NBTs I loaded showed some potential for .75” groups. If I can get 1” consistent groups from this shitty BCA barrel I’ll be happy.

Yes they are and H loads them awfully hot. The Black box match is better with the ELD-M. They shot about 1.5”-1”. Then I go back yesterday with the Black and get 4” vertical at 100 yards. I’m going to check the barrel and toss a SS on top and see if it’s the scope. My Smoke pole was 1” groups at 100 with a 6X SS on top so it definitely isn’t me. I can shoot an AR fine but this damn 6.5G is making what little hair I have left vacate my scalp.

Well, if that Stoner is really a BCA barrel, that would be akin to playing roulette in the casino absent any kind of satisfaction guarantee...........don't have one but I do hear things.

But the pickin's is slim in a reasonable time frame.

If he wants to pay the money, Craddock or CLE or Criterion. They are slow right now, but eventually they will deliver.

Waited 14 weeks for a recent Craddock delivery.

Also, check Ranier's website regularly, as in every day or twice a day, for specials & stuff that comes & goes. I got an Ultramatch MOD 2 barrel recently for nearly half off with a gas block & tube. The UM barrels are Criterion now & have a good user satisfaction guarantee that they will honor.

If only in fairness and in retrospect,I've unfortunately shot a LOT more Large Frame Krunchentickers in 308,than I wanted to.(grin)

I do not recall a "bad" one, once the bore was scrubbed sterile, fed good ammo and wearing glass that could. Add Ball Ammo and shit of course gets "iffy",as some are wayyyyyyy better there than others, but I reckon that more of a fluke, than a Manufacturing Process. Same goes boltguns, with like Fodder.

Was at the 600yd line, day before last, with a visting pard and he was working shit over with my Midsize Vudoo(18" Bart' in Spectre,MacaMillion Classic,2-ounce Shilen and 6x MQ) and was talking about the "shifts" in atmospherics, which were of course REAL. I said "you DO realize, that every 1MPH of FV wind moves things 12.5" at that distance?" and shit clicked. So a greater than 2MOA shift occurs, with every 1MPH of wind and such things are easily extrapolated to Centerfire and that's when THE Mind Fuck enters the equation. He was holding/hitting inside .5MPH wind.

Perspective is handy.(grin)

Coming full circle,I'd simply be shooting the 308 and keeping same in context.

Hint................(grin)

I’m pretty sure he ordered THIS barrel from Criterion. It’s a little outside the original parameters but should be a solid choice. I’ve spent a little time behind a Criterion and it was a shooter.

It will be a HEAVY Bitch, but will shoot. I'd opt the headspaced bolt too, especially on a Large frame krunchenticker,as there is no MilSpec.

I've got piles of Criterions and all are hammers..............
