I can walk into a Wally World at noon, and by 2:00 we'll have lunch, a few beers and uploaded a couple gigs of pictures.

Shit is only as hard as you make it.

Save your money for flashdrives and DVD's, cause a PC and or any computer is a throw away, but the data is not.

Ohh......And Backup, backup, backup, backup. Did I mention backup?

Can't speak for Mac, though Dell, HP and Compaq have all come through for me. Computers have come a long fucking ways and whatever you get will be a big jump from 5yr old equipment. Dell is probably my favorite. The 8000 xps is pushin 1tb HDD and 8gb ram at 7200rpms. I can't imagine filling that SOB up. Programs are aplenty for windows. Just don't jazz 'em up with a bunch of shit and they'll serve you good. Problem with the 8k XPS is its smallish size if you wanted to take advantage of hdd ports and some extra plug-ins, but with limited purpose (normal use), it shall serve well.

Keep 'em fast. Crack the case and dust 'em once in awhile, defrag, antivirus blah blah blah. Hard to go wrong, 'specially when you know how to dig in and make shit work.

The PC I have now is a Dell. Dont know the model but it was top of the line in 2004. They come factory loaded with more shit programs than you want. It also is on its way out because it crashed and I had the computer guy at work try to reload everything. It sits fucked up waiting to get thrown out. The computer guy didn't like dells. I already had my mac with Microsoft on it so didn't really listen to his reasons.

Like I said I have both and would go Mac, but if I didn't I would do the newegg, tigerdirect, walmart option.

I've had to use Dells at work for about 20 years and they always seemed to be the worst of the major manufacturers. Now that I am my own employer I get to choose my own equipment. I currently have two macs (an iMac and a MacBook running Snow Leopard) and three HP/Compaqs running everything from XP to Vista to 7.

Count me in the camp of those who can't figure out why people think Macs are worth the extra cost. They're not bad computers, but I am used to Windows and the Mac way of doing things, from how you close windows to how you see windows and launch programs, never seems as intuitive as the Windows way for me.

Plus, while it used to be the case that Windows was a fat whining bitch of a system to add components to or to get software to run right on, I was really impressed with how smooth Windows 7 worked when I got my newest box. I think it actually puts the hurt on Snow Leopard for ease of use and ease of set up. I took the thing out of the box, plugged in the power and monitor and the dsl cable and the thing took care of everything itself, even set up an internet connection without me having to lift a finger.

I wouldn't buy a Dell, but if I were to stack em up in order of preference for the whole package (cost, ease of use, reliability) I'd put HP running Windows 7 on top of any Apple.

Installed...good price. Just need a reason to justify the extra gigs. HDDs go out, I'd opt an external for backup, save the clams til the original takes a shit on you. They're simple enough to replace.
