The boys and I got hung up last night, so we ended up taking off at 2am this morning. Lots of fog on the way up, but clear as a bell up top.

I'd hunted this particular spot 4 times before over the years, and have never seen a decent buck. Looking at a map yesterday, I saw a ravine I had overlooked. So, I figured we'd give it a go.

Took 3 hours of hard hiking to get to the ravine. I immediately saw 2 little forks sparring on the opposite edge. We waited. A nice 3pt walked into view. Anthony and I then crept to the edge of the cliff and saw the herd. 15-20 bucks grazing at the bottom of the ravine. They were fucked, as I had the wind and about 400ft of elevation on them. Took us 20 minutes to sort them out and find the biggest one. They kept grazing in circles with their heads down, so it was tough to keep track of the bigger ones. Some rather impressive 3x3's in the herd.

I finally ended up shooting this one. I'm pretty sure I got the biggest one, but a bigger one might have been lurking nearby. 200ish yards. 162amax out of my 7saum. Made one hell of a mess. I think I'll go back to X's.. (grin) 3 hour hike back down. Kinda funny we did 6 hours of hiking to glass bucks for 20 minutes.

The little one with the buck. Decent buck. Not huge or anything like that.

Some of the bucks that stuck around for about 10 minutes after I shot my buck. They just watched me while I kept glassing to see what else was around. Anthony and I talked it over and he decided to wait till the weekend to get his buck.

Now that I know what I know, I'll wait till the first nw wind in mid aug next year to set up on that spot. Some of those forks and 3pts looked like they had some good potential.

Bloodied a few new Ingrams too. Anthony broke in his Meindl Corks. Pretty good morning.
