Same in BC.

Although few guys get caught, as there isn't a compulsory inspection for northern moose, just southern.

Have to take all four quarters and loins, however you can leave behind meat damaged by "method of taking".

Good pics guys. I'm leaving in a few weeks for the western yukon for a moose hunt. I'll be in the field for 14 days, in some big moose territory, hopefully looking something over. I'm hunting horns, so it'll take something big to get me on the trigger.

I'm on standby for goat.. If I get a weather window in Oct, I'll go for it. Weather can be rather dicey though that time of the year.

Did a little better today. Took a little morning walk behind town, and it took me longer than I expected to find a moose. When I did, they were about a mile away, and I wasn't smart enough to take the trail, so I got some good cross-country hiking in. I also forgot my binos, and had to use the POS Vortex pair that rides in the truck.

As I was busting brush to get to the ones I spotted, I ran into a 30"ish bull, with the camera in the pack. Lesson learned, and luckily in time to find this guy.

He was at about 25 yards, and stuck around long enough for a few pics.

After he took off, I used a little trick I learned bowhunting with Mr Bill, and walked back to about 10 yards from him...

Off to find more...I finally found a trail, and went up to a place I've only been to when there was 3+ feet of snow on the ground. I saw 3 more moose in the brush about half a mile away, so went in for a closer look. This guy was in the brush, and busted me at about 60 yards.

He booked it, but slowed down when he hit the brush, so I could get around him.

I caught up eventually...

They don't look like they're going hungry. The top bull is only 30"? Damn

The first 5 pics are all the same bull, I thought it was 2 different ones, but after looking at the pics he's either the same bull or they're twins. I'm guessing he's 47"+, but I'm no moose judge.

Didn't get pics of the 30"er, as the camera was packed away (stupid).

These are just the two that I got the most personal with, and that didn't have a ton of brush between us. I never did get on the bull that I spotted originally, but he wasn't huge. None of these would make me 100% confident to shoot in a 50" or better area.

Do they have to have 3 or 4 points on their brow tines to be legal also? A small sub-legal moose is still a big SOB.

Depends on the area, but regs are generally:
3 brow tines or 50"+ or a spike or a fork on one side
or
4 brow tines or 50"+ or a spike or a fork on one side

Every unit is different, and then there are "any bull" tags, cow tags, "anything brown" tags, etc.

A guy that I hunt with is hell bent to do a float hunt in the next 5 years. I'll go just for the adventure of it all. I'd like to shoot one but I'd have to prop it up in the garage since there is no way it would fit in the house.

I've always heard the best place to shoot a moose (and for it to die) is in 2 feet of water.
