I fingered a new Montucky 280AI today. I 'bout fell out when he grabbed it from the shelf and said it was 280AI. I had to take a peek at the barrel stamp just for good measure....sure enough, it was.

First I've seen or heard of them on the shelves..

There were a couple on GunsAmerica yesterday but are now sold.

How much did your local shop want for it?

I'd love to snag a 25-06 and or a 280AI in the 84L.. Had a 30-06 84L in my hands at a local shop the other day and liked it alot! Makes it real tough to even think about a LA Montana or a SA Mag montana..

Difference is night and day in the handle.. Love the 84L handle..

$1099 at Local shop

Wade-- they had the 280AI priced at $1250. I know they would have come off of that some, but not enough for me to buy in then

It's tomorrow, you should've been done with work 90min ago. By now the trigger should be adjusted, and mag-box/throat geometry cyphered.

WTF you waitin' on?

I'm pretty excited to hear the reports on this rifle. Mine (whenever I get it) will be my first Montana. This year as I was slogging my way out of my elk hidey-hole one day, knowing that I had a 3-mile uphill journey ahead of me, I was thinking that my Ruger #1 .45-70 just wasn't going to cut it as a long-term lightweight rig. smile

Did you find one around Indy or order it?

Every shop I talk to around here has to have a Montana pointed to in a catalog before they understand what I'm asking about.

2# works better for me. Gotta get the thing outta the stock to measure the mag box anyway, might as well make the adjustments as it takes all of an extra 90 seconds.

Won't be snuggling the A-max into the lands any more than 1 at a time unless you've a longer box than mine.

Yep.

Did more testing, and I'm kissing lands at 3.445" with the AMax. They are still too long to fit in the mag box if I want to kiss lands. So I loaded up some FF loads with some 160 NAB's I had laying around.

6 lbs 6.25 oz with talley LW lows and a FXIII 6x42. Just a CH clear of the barrel with the lows, glad I didn't get extra lows...

BC caps won't work with lows then? I will probably have to go with the mediums for mine, I'm guessin'.

BC caps will work with a non-AO 40MM in Talley Lows.

I'll post up some pics later tonight if I get the time. I run Alumina flip ups on most of my scopes so don't have any BC caps to try out...

FWIW, my faux-ti 30-06 (SS MR barrel on CM action) with space age flip-flop recoil pad, talley lows and a 6x36 leupold weighs just shy of 6# 9oz.

Not that there's much wrong with the Montana, but the remmy will give you room to throat.

Life does not end just because one can't kiss the throat. I've found stupid accuracy from a jump.

If the 162 won't fit within constraints, has anyone looked at what the COAL's would be for the new 145 7mm LRX? Looks like a 168 for this year too....
