Thoughts of the 105 AMax keep running through my head.

So with a couple of Kimbers in 257 Roberts (Classic Select and Montana), I'm debating what the need for them is. I now have a couple of 223 AI's, a couple 7-08's, a 280AI, a couple 7 WSM's and a 300 H&H.

Thinking the 257's are unnecessary since the 223AI and the 7-08 are primary deer killers. If I go for anything larger, the 280AI and 7WSM get the nod. Thought my boys would be primary users of them, but both boys are shooting left handed now, so will be looking at LH 700's for them as they grow...

So, even though the Bobs are good shooters, do I
1) punch them out and just run the 100 TSX,
2) retube the Montucky to 243 AI with an 8 twist, or
3) sell them and pick up a Montucky 243 and punch it out to run the 105 AMax?

Thx...

Given #2 & 3 above, I may be preachin' to the choir, but the .243 'Tucky is a 10-twist, requiring #2 for a 105. I know what I'd do....

I'd punch one of the 257's to 25/284 and rebarrel the other to 243AI.....Blake

There's no upside to a Bob or better Bob. In a s/a the 25-284 fucking smokes it and grants more COAL wiggle room. In a l/a you've the 25-06 or better yet 25-06AI.

With a good .224" and good .284",the .243" is the obvious void for me and again due simply to boolits.

A 243AI Montucky twisted/throated right,would be THE ticket.................

Retube sounds like the way to go. Pacnor would probably get the nod.

Question: Given the 2.825" mag box on the Montucky s/a, will the 105 be too long of a bullet to run within those constraints?

Nope, I do it all the time. They fit with the factory throat at 2.77" and post rebarrel at 2.75".

Found this one on a search for 243AI load data. Damn this place helps me spend money... The 257 Roberts is going to PN for a 243AI spout... Then I will have everything I need for what needs doing...

Gotta talk to my gunsmith about that one. Might just sell it and get rid of my 25 caliber stuff entirely...

Any flies on a Douglas XX SS barrel? IT&D has pretty attractive price to rebarrel the Montana. Douglas is a 6 groove but Dave says it will shoot just as good as a PacNor.

Damn. Just looked at their price list. Is this correct?

Contoured & Polished Super-Match Grade Stainless Steel Blank $310.00
Special Custom Contours
(Any Contour not found on PAC-NOR chart) Add $35.00
Fitting and Chambering PAC-NOR Barrel to Your Action
(Includes Lapping and Truing of Action) Add $300.00

So I'd be looking at $645.00 plus shipping?

Or do you all order the barrel plus this

Prefit any PAC-NOR Barrel to Desired Caliber Add $125.00

and then have a local gunsmith screw the barrel on and headspace properly?

Scenars ain't cheap either. Good brass abounds and more often than not,I'm gunning R/P hulls by choice.

Much to be said, for buying everything in volume...................

On to scope base and rings. Have talley LW lows and a 6x42 M1. Should I go with a different base to gain more elevation?

It'd be a rather inordinate receiver, that'd mandate an inclined base to keep you shy of the 1000yd line,in that chambering and wearing said glass...............
