Looking to pick one up. What should I look for and what should I stay away from?

Look to pick up an AR and stay away from the AK.(grin)

Already got a Bushy M4. Like to have both.

In The Day,we all bought AK's,SKS's,Hakim's,etc...mainly because ammo for same was cheaper than free.

AR's trump the lot and by quite a margin. Never did Arisaka though...but for some reason don't feel that I missed much..................

Now they've got Dragunov's for as much as a good AR and people actually buy the fuckers.A $75 SKS and 7.62x39 for less then .22LR was fun.

I could see a guy going FAL or '91 for giggles...but no self-shucking 7.62x39..............

I've had a Hugo SKS and an M44 Mosin. The Mosin was a kick in the pants till ammo prices went up. Killed a few coyotes with it. Something about a rifle with a fold out fluted spike on the front of it is just cool. I sold it off after I ran out of my last span can of surplus FMJ.

AK's are just way too expensive for what they are. The only appeal would be if one could get a select fire one for what the semi's cost.

That's akin to saying the only thing better than a scoop of shit,is a bucket full of shit.

The downside is,there's no upside.....................(grin)

I dig the shit out of my Mak 90. I just don't ask too much of her.
