1st time for me to have seen a broken reticle in any Leupold scope. I was taking a 6x42 off my front stuffer, to put on my Montana while the other 6x42 is getting turreted and I mounted the scope and took a gander. To my surprise the bottom post of the crosshair was no longer attached. I bought this scope second hand and have had it on a few different rifles. One thing that I had noticed when I mounted it on my muzzleloader was that the left horizontal post would bend when I tightened down the talley LWT's. I said screw it and left it, only fired enough shots to get the thing sighted in, and it has set in the safe for about 7 months. Any chance the Talleys were defective and that is what caused the woe. I will get it in the mail back to beaverton tomorrow with a note to fix the reticle, and I will most likely have them change the friction adjustments to clicks instead of friction type......Blake

They don't make receivers that aren't defective in regards to consistency in that area.

The bases and or rings are almost never to blame for bad tolearances. It's for that reason alone is why I bed my bases, regardless of the brand of base or receiver.

I had the same thing happen to an M8 6X42 a little while back. Added it to a pile of scopes that need to go back, some for turrets, one to fix a crunched lens (bought it that way, and the seller neglected to mention it...) but that's the only one I've broken.

That scope had been riding in Leupold adjustables and was recently swapped to Talleys. Could have been anything, including the 338 RUM that caused the problem, but I'm guessing it was tweaking of the tube via multiple sets of rings/rifles over the years.

I wonder if I send them a 3.5-10X50 if they will "fix" the extra cm of objective into a 40mm.

Get a Leupold to drip water, and then you've done something...(grin)

I don't think it a receiver issue as I put those same rings and bases on my 700 TI and they caused a bend in the reticle on that rifle as well.......Blake

Rest assured,it IS a receiver issue.

Dan-O broke the same 6x42 a couple/few times on the same rifle and that one will be tough to top................(grin)

I've yet to see a 700 or 70 that some monkey didn't work over with a buffer/grinder..........no sense in looking much further.
I don't think Gary's Haas' can fuck them rings up that bad.
