I'd have sent it back if it wouldn't do sub 1" at 50. I don't know if you're familiar with the Marvel units or not but what set's them apart from the other 1911 conversions is that they have a fixed barrel with the sight rail ridgidly attached. The Kimber, Ceiner, Day, and the Colt units all use a pivoting barrel which just can't run with the Marvel accuracy wise.

Is a comp needed....no, but it adds to the kewl factor...

You might want to check KART off your list there. The Marvel unit is a copy of Fred Kart's orginal design only cut back to a 5" version.

Stick, would you run optics on a 41 or open sights?

Optics steal from the Pistole's inherent virtues...though my blinkers mandate same, whether they're affixed my head or an onboard rail.

If concealment ain't THE issue(which is THE pistole virtue),then optics trump irons in practicality. Today's crop of options, cover a huge gamut of applications rather soundly and for pursuits mused thus far,I'd be thinking something heads up,less magnification, mainly for ease of aquistion.

We've come a long ways baby..............

I stand corrected, thanks. I handled one out at Perry in '96 and would've sworn it wasn't a fixed barrel...

Back when I was a very anal bullseye shooter I wanted all my triggers to feel exactly the same. I got over that when the Hammerli 208S was purchased. The Smith was long gone at that point.

No shit....small world.

I made National Civilian Team in '95 as a sharpshooter then fell flat on my ass in '96 as an expert. Hurt my elbow after that and haven't been back. Do you still shoot bullseye?

The reason I ask is if you go with optics you might give one of these a look for the 41.

Further than you might have known.

Negatory...I'll be the first to admit that at the time I was very concerned (for no good fuckin reason) about how everything had to be just so. After learning to handle the Hammerli and growing to appreciate the 2 stage trigger I was able to loosen up a little.
