Build an AR10 around a couple buckets of brass...

Are six+ gallons of once-fired hornady 308 brass as used in their factory tactical ammo, worth building some sort of AR10 around? Can one go about this in a manner similar to a PSA AR15: good enough for cheap? Receiver? Chambering and diet? Barrel length? Furniture? Drive gas management? Optic? Minimal frills appeals to me.

PSA parts have been good to me. Picked up a used 18” 308 barrel that is an absolute hammer with 168SMKs.
My 300blk upper from them only needed an adjustable gas block to make it 100% functional. Original was way over gassing the gun.

With a bucket of brass it would be a no brainer to do a 308 upper. So what if the brass is not top quality, a gas gun isn’t exactly friendly to brass anyway. Wear out the brass and rebarrel to something more stylish....

A Krunchenticker,is the LAST place I want to fuck with shit brass. toss the brass off the cliff and the build/component pricing of the smaller framed '15,will more than offset same, while outperforming it to boot.

'Course it'll handle only a million times better too,if only for starters...............

I get that you have a ton of brass but an AR 10 is nothing but a club. I had one and couldn't get away fast enough, YMMV

You lose ALL sense of "feel" with a Krunchenticker and Hornie brass is shitty enough,I'd be aspooked of setback or other mechanical malady,on theway into battery.

Prolly a GOOD time as Politics go,to sell buckets of 308 Hornie...................(grin)

Operating pressures wouldn't be my concern, but metallurgy is. Especially when talking O/F brass that is amongst the worst shit ever made, then applying it to a Krunchenticker, which is amongst THE most trying of platforms,in regards to same.

I've seen saving money, cost folks a LOT more than just cutting to the chase and rather often.............

Boy, your experience with it and mine sure does differ.
I’ve run nothing but Hornady 223 brass for my AR15 reloads for years. Never experienced a single failure.

Certainly can’t be worse than Federal in 308 and I typically get 6-8 reloads out of them before primer pockets give up.

If I had it I’d run it......

Absolutely bar NONE,the worst shit I've ever seen.

That being said,I don't know that I've ever encountered a piece of Hornie 223 brass.................

Stick,

Are you talking hornady brass in general or just 308?

I've got some 243 brass that I AI'ed and some 6 creed brass that I haven't been kind to but its held up ok. On the flip side I had some hornady 22-250 brass that was bar none the worst brass I ever had

ALL of it.

243 Virgin brass cost a pard a Booner. Have seen a pile of Virgin collapsed cases, that one couldn't even neck size.

Amazingly fucking shitty..............
