Shitty pics shouldn't load so slow...or rather, any picture that takes that long to load should be a good frame.

Those are poor pics, but I'm too lazy to get off my ass and take a better shot. I will likely, though, get up to pour more baileys and coffee..

The blue is just for show, as it wears Gun-Chaps when I go hunting.

(no, not really)

I dated a girl in highschool whose dad showed me his pride-and-joy deer rifle. A 742 30-06 with chaps, see thru's, and a wideview Redfield. Ouch....

Amber scope caps too? Was the case cracked up plasticy type stuff or did it have golden retrievers and mallards in the lining? :D

What colors are those? That is pretty cool looking. I seem to remember you posting the specs of the gun. Bolt handle looks like it got slipped a little blue pill.

Not sure what the color percentage is, it was painted black when I got it. Appears to be about 70tan and 30 purple.

Yeah, that red is killer.

Here's some uneventful Black N Gray (ripped off idea from Stick's black and whites. Sometimes wish I woulda' went with that).

It's for the 284win. I just got the dies today. Seating the 140 TTSXs and sending them to the smith soon. Any prefered powder to start with. Got a few to start: IMR4064, R19, R15

Also shooting the 120Vmax.

I don't remember the percentages and the stock is half way across the country right now, but the colors are light blue, light grey, and black.

Anyone got pics of a Desert Camo in a swirly?
How about a winter swirly, like say 50/25/25 in White/Black/Grey?

This one is my all time favorite. I assume the 25% grey is light grey and the blue is dark?

I'm guessing you're right. Mine's 50% Dark Blue, 25% Black, 25% Light Grey and they look awfully similar.

Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the rifle without the dink.

Mtn Hunter was running a very similiar scheme on a 338 winnie at one time. That does look good.

Chuck, my mtn rifle stock is indeed 50 dark blue, 25 light gray, and 25 black, just like the one jds has. This particular one used to belong to Mtn Hunter and was probably the first swirl I lusted for when I started lurking the Campfire. I happened upon it by chance and had to have it. Matt's right in that he also had a blue 338 Win at the time. Thats a PN#2 tube I have in there now.

I like the red one. Not sure I've seen a red one that I don't like.

But someone snuck in, swapped your FP shroud, drilled holes in your bolt, fucked with your safety, and soldered on a weird handle. Likely wrote something weird on the receiver too. Let me know if you want help kicking their ass when you find the dirty bastard.

I made this one with Robert Gradous. I left it in Georgia to have flush cups installed and it isn't back yet. When it gets home I will snap a few.

Brother Bill: They're pretty low tech...since I'm a Low Tech Guy in a High Techy World. ;) Just some copper tubing soldered together. They're light, pack up easily and are really stable. A pal of mine made some copies from 1/2" alum. solid round, filed some half round reliefs at the joints and JB Welded 'em together...even easier. With some clear plastic tubing on the legs and where the rifle sits they don't move when you're cleaning and don't ding up the stocks. Heat shrink tubing works great, too.

Matt...I'm not from Wisconsin 'nor anywhere near as civilized as that. I'm a South Dakota guy..buffalos, Mount Rushmore (other side of the state from me), the Badlands, corn, beans, amber waves of grain....that place.

There's a great story about getting Nugent's sig. and his trademark bow and arrow 'stick man' on that rifle and another of mine...this 22BR that I use for fox and coyote hunting.

Do the color help your gun hide better from the animals? I just have a wood one, and I think the dang deer see it, they always run. Wait till I am a long range shooter, than they will run, but I will get them anyway. How much do the blue one cost, and do walmart sell these type? Thank you.

Blake, thanks.

LOBO, those are black and orange. As far as the mixture, they're both 50%/50%. This was my 2nd blk/org A5. My original one didn't turn out how I wanted it. I sold it to Brad Arnett and bought my friend Tim's blk/org.

Thanks for the clarification! They both look great, and the mix is a no-brainer to add on my short list of "needed" color combos!!

I picked up a McMillian from the suggestions on another forum for my Remington 700 Youth LH. This is a 50% Forest Green, 50% White in a Remington Compact pattern. This stock is miles better than any of the plastic stocks I have ever seen, and I have to say, even with costing a bit more than the rifle, it really transformed the rifle into something I will use the snot out of. Here are a couple pics:

Finally arrived last week. My last two had been camo pattern (Desert and GAP) so I figured I needed another swirly.

Winchester Compact 60% OD, 40% Black. .300 WSM, Talley LW and Leupold 3.5-10x40

Brother Bill- thanks! Turned out different than I visualized, but I like it none the less.

isaac- it's alright. Rides sandbags pretty well. The reach to the trigger from the grip is a little short, but that probably has more to do with me being a 6'6" tall genetic freak than any fault of the stock. The gun (a .204) probably shoots better than I'm capable of, but it might have done the same in the factory stock, but I've never even shot it with the Remington tupperware handle. I FUBARed the order... I was actually looking for an actual A3, but didn't catch my brainfart. Oh well.

I do have an A3 on order right now (I hope it's an A3!).

presumably you got people's permission to use their personal photos on your own blog, yes?

i see several photos I recognize as not yours, and have a feeling the rightful owners of those photos would be rather displeased if their property were being used without their permission...

I guess the guy didn't answer...and I see he has used a few of my pics: http://precisionrifleblog.com/2013/07/02/olive-tan-brown-mcmillan-marble-stock-color-pictures/#jp-carousel-578

I guess it's time to shoot the dude an email from my work email (the one starting with "law offices of...").

Hey guys, I actually do totally respect owernship ... its what seperates America from the socialist countries. If I have posted a picture of your stock and you would like me to take it off the gallery ... I will immediately. Just add a comment on whatever photo it is, and I will do my best to have it down ASAP.

I honestly am just trying to help people who are considering buying a McMillan stock. I personally was in that position a few months ago, and it was painful to try to decide what to go with because you feel like you are guessing and just hope it turns out like you envision. Luckily there are a lot of great people out there willing to share photos of their stocks along with the color ratios they used, and I really appreciate those people and would never want for them to feel like I stole from them somehow.

I literally spent days working on those photo galleries, and don't get paid a dime for any of this. I'm an IT guy, and I saw a way I could make this process easier on people that are in the same position that I was. I think the McMillan stocks are amazing, and seeing some examples may give people to confidence they need to actually place the order and know they will get something they'll be proud of.

I did talk to remsen, and he has graciously allowed me to keep his photos in the gallery. He said he had other people repost his photos before and when he confronted them they had an "I don't need permission" attitude. I assure you that isn't me ... just trying to help here. He could probably vouch for me.

Following up on PrecisionRifle's post, his description of our interaction is accurate. I posted a comment on his blog about my pics and he was really prompt about responding. I told him that as long as he was being forthright about things I didn't mind his using my pics. I actually like the idea of his galleries, so I see the value there.

I guess some people will rightfully take issue with the idea of having to claim their rights after someone has already used the pics and I certainly won't say that they're wrong for taking that point of view.

My point of view is that as long as the blog is not a commercial thing (i.e., he's not using other people's pictures to sell ads or things like that) I don't have a problem with him basically acting as an aggregator of McM swirly design pics...probably would be best if there was a link back or attribution for where the pics came from, but I honestly don't care as long as my pics aren't being sold/marketed. If I cared that much about them, I'd slap a (c) on the pics and probably wouldn't post them in a forum.

Anyway, since I posted earlier about this and heard back from the blog owner I thought a follow up post was in order.

Remsen ... thanks for the post. The link back is a great idea, and I've already started on that process. I will need to go back through all of the forums to try to find all the stocks, but I'll commit time to doing that. I will add comments to each photo with a link back to the forum I found it on. If you guys notice a stock I haven't got to yet, and you know where it came from ... please add a comment. I appreciate your patience as I work through this.

He is running ads on every page, so he is either using the free wordpress blogs and the money accrues to them or he is paying them to host it and the ad money goes to him.

As with most people I've know who lift the work of others verbatim and call it a blog, he is most likely waiting until he gets enough traffic for the ad revenue to cover wordpress' fee and then he will switch it out.
