Decided to go with another Borden for this .243 AI project.

Going to try one of those Calvin elites instead of a Jewel. Benchmark is 4 month lead time on a #2 contour. What about a Hart for this caliber, they are 2.5 months lead.

I used a 1-8" #2 Hart for my 243 AI cut at 22" and it fits in the New Mcmillan Hunter stock in EDGE fill and fore end perfectly. Balances nicely too. I believe you are using the same stock as me but will you go with EDGE fill or a swirl?

How bout the rest of the built if you wouldn't mind posting.

What bullet will you chamber it for and at what COAL?

Jim must have added the made in USA on the port recently because mine don't have that.

Will be interested to follow along your progress! Good luck.

I picked this action up at Europtic. They are about 2 hours away and had it in stock. It's going to be a twin to the 223 AI with a different swirl pattern.

Stabbed a 2oz Stainless Shilen trigger on C-Note the other day and it trumps all things Jewell.

Handy for movers.....................

I've shot numerous versions of Shilen and this is better than elder examples.

It is their Stainless Steel Competition 2-6oz Model...........

Forgot about the Shilen trigger. Just ordered the Hart in 7 twist, going to have to wait for PTG to grind a reamer,[ 6 weeks] and 4 months if I'am lucky for the McMillan. Hart is basically a local company 2-1/2 hours away and yet to hear anything legitimately bad about their product.

Easy to turn 'em down.
Have Bill @ Benchmark take a look at inventory for a blank with your bore/twist/grooves recipe. Most times, they are there and can be turned down in short order for an extry $35.

Lol....wide open. I don't rely on the safety really like the 700's bolt stop release setup but not ready to ditch them either. I looked over some triggers at a show in Nashville back in the spring. I liked the looks of them but didn't get one. They sorta remind me of the Montana trigger

Ordered one of those elite triggers from Timney. Going to find out what those are all about. First I will have to do is remove the bolt release.

What color on the swirl? Also, would you mind linking your 223 AI thread I cant find it for the life of me.

Thanks
Fire formed some RP brass on the .223ai. The 243 ai will be a twin to this.

Where's my barrel, where's my stock? LOL

Read over on the fire where some guys were getting fast turn around from McMillan. If that holds true for me, might have this done in January.

Under two month wait.

Now if PTG gets that reamer here I will have something to do when the snow flies

Hart has been great to me, looking forward to seeing the final product.

My 243 AI is finally in a groove. It also wears a #2 Hart 1-8" twist. In formed cases 42.5 RL-17 and a kissing 105 Scenar is money. It also performed well with 45 RL-22 and a 105 HPBT. Lapua brass, CCI 200's and moly.

I had a 7 day "wait" on the 6x45...after the right barrel arrived(Greg sent a 6.5 on accident). Had it turned to dupe the OEM contour and installed for under 500 Clams total.

Very nearly 700rds through it,as of today.

Was RED Hot with it,just a coupla minutes ago.............(grin)

A few years ago I left a tracer lathe go reasonable at auction because at the time, "what could I use it for?"

Probably start playing next week. The weather is unseasonably warm so there is still money to be made outside.

Members on the fire are claiming McMillan mid October orders are being shipped. The missing link to my build might be rolling in soon.

Not to rain on the parade, but I have an order for an A5 in from early October and haven't heard a thing about shipping.

I'am sure turnaround times depend on stock design, inlet. It appears the 700 platform is getting the quicker turnaround.

I was interrupted so many times today its a wonder I didn't fuck this up.

Dummy round with the 105 a-max is 2.750 so I don't have to open the well for a Wyatt box.

Can see from here, that she's a nicely balanced bitch.

I tend to nip mag releases fairly trite and often re-spring 'em,to preclude an unwanted mag drop...............

Balance is indeed veddy nice! I did buck the pogo-stick back just over 1/2" and spring tension is ok for now but will keep an eye on it.....

Stick, I'll put up a thread with the build specs here shortly ...

The problem with me is a new build is starting at ground zero. Have to buy the reamer and gauges. PTG never seems to have what I need in stock. I decided to build the 243ai a twin to the 223ai so I had to wait for the Mcmillan hunter with the 14"LOP.

The twins, .243AI and .223 AI

Went with a Hart and Timney instead of the Douglas and Jewel on the 223. Every thing else is the same.
Borden Alpine
McMillan Hunter
PTG Oberndorf bottom
Super chicken 6X mil quad
Talley LW lows

I like those a whole bunch. I haven't done it yet but sure think it would be a great idea to have small medium and large rifles setup exactly alike.

Espically cool doing then yourself. Good job

Bought a box of 105 skinners, going to see what they are about. They seat a little longer than the a-max and just fit in the mag box

I found the best accuracy with them. 42.5gr RL-17 fireformed Lapua 243 brass CCI 200 and moly.
