...Kinda. I reconfigured the 308, haven't shot it yet. It's the VS cut to 22". Feels Sooooo much lighter and handier in this guise. I think I'm going to love this for a general purpose rifle.

Scope is Vari-X III 1.5-5x20 with .5 moa turrets, and USMC Mildot reticle. 120 MOA internal travel. Premier Reticles put it together for me a few years ago. I figure 5X should quarter a 2 moa target as easily as 10X quarters a 1 moa target. The Talley LW's put the scope nice and low, no comb height issues with the HTG.

I'll let you know how it shoots.

Went out and zeroed at 100 yards today. I was aiming at the corners of the red square. Started lower left, went counterclockwise. The last group was a nice way to finish.

Wind was 10-15 mph, 10 o'clock, 38F. I think the wind accounts for a lot of the lateral dispersion.

I like it with the 22" chop, how's your balance? I've got a similar rifle in the works with a .223 VS on an A3/sniper fill.

This setup is a keeper.

I've been wanting something more portable than my 15+ lb precision rig, with more thump than my AR-15s. This fills the bill nicely.

No lightweight, but I'm sure it's below 10 lbs, carries and balances nicely.

The more I use the 308, the more I like it. Not really the "best" at anything, but it does a lot of things "good enough".

I hear rumors that Remington might be selling some LH rifles in the SPS line, in 2008. That would be pretty nice to have an economy-grade LH out there for donor use. Used long action LH BDLs are fairly abundant on GunsAmerica, for $400-500, but the short actions are not so common.

I've had LTR's in various configurations and just cain't whip up on the A5.

This is one in 223,punched 223AI and threaded for a brake/can,with a Kenworth shifter added(like your's). It wears an M3 and I still can't like them.

Bottom most is a 23" 308 with an M852 Rock 5R tube.

I easily prefer the fast 223AI,to the 308................

Nice rifles.

I've got a 223 SPS Tactical takeoff barrel in the pipeline. 20", no flutes, 1/9 twist. I was originally thinking of putting that in the smear M40A1, but it could end up in the A5. The smear might need a 308 heavy barrel in reverence to it's own history. Final decisions will be dictated by donor boltfaces. The 223 takeoff could end up reamed to 22-250, if I end up with a .473" donor.

I'm gonna build a retro-ish 243AI in my M40A1 take-off.

Should have it stamped "308",as a joke...................(grin)

Yeah they are. It would sure be nice if Rem standardized a faster twist on all of their 223s.

I noticed that funky pump-action police 223 is twisted 1/10???? I don't know where they come up with some of this stuff.

I'd rather have a 1-14" Remmie,than a 1-8" Tikka. So I do.(grin)

Remmie could do a Tactical 700 Long Range 223 twisted 1-8",wearing a 2.500" magbox spacer and sell 'em like hotcakes.

Catchy moniker too...............

I noticed that on the Tikka. They even have a few stainless southpaw T-3s.

At least someone is taking the lead on twist rates. I can't find any great desire for the rifle though.

Would live to see a S/S 700 108" 223 and 22-250 in Sporter contour,wearing a synthetic Classic of Ti-esque construction.

They'd be Hot Cakes +P..............

Light bullets don't shoot well in a faster twist, what does a 75gr 223 bullet do that I can't already do with that weight in my 243. I can still hear those 'Fire idiots..........

Did you see that new Savage Precision Varminter? Solid bottom single shot, extra heavy bbl (1" at muzzle I believe). Anyhows, they are offering 1/7 223, and 1/9 22-250 in that thing.

Time for Remmie to wake the fuck up....

A guy has to have an inkling to boolit selection, prior to tickling the keys ala JBM,or all is moot.

You could take Martha Stewart, drop a .224" 75A-Max into the palm of her hand and she'd say "Holy Fuck!"....and mean it...............

Me too. But with Tikka and Savage offering these fast twist barrels now, I gotta wonder where the fuck are Remmie's corporate spies??? They need to shitcan the lot of them and hire new....

Just a few twist tweaks, would open reams of new opportunity.

It'll happen,though I don't know when..............
