I love my 250 Savage Ackley, no doubt about that. But honestly..if I had to do it all over again I think I'd go with a simple 243W case necked to .25...aka the 25-08, 25 Super/Souper.
With a reamer dimensioned from Lapua 243 brass it offers all the ballistics of the 250 Savage Ackley with simpler dies, better brass availablity, no fireforming and slick feeding from a short 700 action.
Not that any of these are deal breakers for particularly gunny types, but for the average guy this is a 'domesticat' that makes sense.
Another nice .25 can be made from the Lapua 6.5X47 case necked to .25. Again, stupid-simple dies, reamers and killer brass.
Two pals of mine have .25's as outlined..between the .25-08, the 25-47L and my 250 Savage Ackley there isn't 100 fps difference between any of them and accuracy is so similar that's it's a toss up.
Those are the kind of decisions I like..no 'wrong' way to go.
Good shootin'.
